March 3, 2021
Dear customers (and friends!) -  I hope you all are staying healthy and calm.

Life here on the farm goes on. Thank goodness! And we can't wait for all the snow to disappear - it arrived here the end of January and we STILL haven't seen the ground!!

----------------eggs -----------------------
Our hens are laying three dozen eggs a day, since the days are short. In addition to our eggs, we are selling Hazelman Farms' eggs, so we don't run out of eggs.

----------------chicken-------------------------
We raised 50 chickens for meat this year and still have some for sale. We buy them as one day old chicks (from Moyer's Chicks, in Quakertown, PA) and raise them until they are between 8 - 10 weeks old. We slaughter them here on the farm, and sell them as whole chicken - ready to pop in your oven! If you are interested you need to see Allison.

-------------the garden---------------------
We are starting our plants for this season: the yams are sprouting and the parsley, Corno de Toro peppers and Hananada peppers have germinated and are about an inch high. In the next two weeks we'll be starting our heirloom tomatoes and basil.
The onion starts have been ordered and should be here the first week in April.

So if you are a gardener here in northern New Jersey: start planning your garden and getting those seeds in some soil!
--------------the sheep-------------------------
We have only two half lambs left for sale, plus lots of ground lam (sold by the pound). We sell our lamb by the whole or half lamb. It is butchered and freezer sealed, just like in the grocery store! Let Allison know if you are interested in purchasing a whole or half lamb.

We made a huge decision last fall to NOT breed our sheep this year, so its going to be quiet this spring with no baby lambs.

Our sheep are Dorset / Romney crosses that produce a beautiful soft wool in white, light grey, dark grey, or dark brown (the natural colors of our sheep). If any of you are knitters, weavers, or crocheters, we have yarn for sale. It is worsted weight, double ply, hand spun (by me!). It is It is $20 for one skein of 100 yards.
We also sell wool that has been washed, carded, and is in roving ready for you to spin or felt. This is $2.50 per ounce.

----------------compost-----------------
We have compost available by the bag. It is the manure from our animals, mixed with pine chips, old hay, leaves, ashes, and sawdust, all aged for at least one year.

Please keep safe and healthy everyone! And get outdoors and breath the fresh air!!
